José de Sá is a Director in Bain & Company’s Rio de Janeiro office and a member of the firm’s Oil & Gas and Public Sector Practices. He joined Bain in 2008.

Mr. de Sá has more than 20 years of work experience and more than 15 years of experience in management consulting, advising national and multinational companies in the oil and gas, utilities and consumer goods sectors, as well as federal, state and municipal governments, and trade associations to help them in creating sustainable business and socioeconomic results in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Mexico, Venezuela, the USA, Germany, the UK, Spain, South Africa, Angola, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Côte D’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Benin and Togo. He advises clients on critical business issues, such as business unit strategy, alliance and joint venture strategy, organization and organizational transformation, corporate finance, risk management, portfolio management, marketing and performance improvement. Recent experiences involved optimizing the natural gas strategy for a leading Latin American integrated oil company, and helping the Presidency of a Latin American country prioritize, enable and implement an ambitious industrialization strategy.

Mr. de Sá’s perspectives on Brazil’s oil & gas industry have been quoted in the Financial Times and published in Oilfield Technologies, as well as in several local media like Exame magazine and newspapers Valor Economico and O Globo. He has also been a an active speaker in several conferences, most notably Rio Oil & Gas, Platts European Refining Summit
and the Latin America Refining Technology Conference.

Prior to joining Bain, Mr. de Sá worked as a partner at other global consulting firms. He was a founding partner at Grupo TPC, Research Director at Bankers Trust and an Engineer at Politeno Petroquimica SA.

Mr. de Sá earned an MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University in the U.S. and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidade Federal da Bahia in Salvador, Brazil.

Profesional con 23 años de experiencia en la industria de la refinación. Graduado en Ingeniería Química (Universidad de Buenos Aires – Argentina) y Master en Economía y Administración de Empresas (ESEADE – Argentina).

Comenzó su carrera en la Refinería Shell en Argentina como ingeniero de procesos, asistiendo en el diseño y desarrollo de proyectos de inversión, y como soporte a operaciones en temas de mejoras de margen, seguridad de procesos, eficiencia energética, y optimización de unidades de proceso. En el año 1998 es asignado a Shell Global Solutions International (Holanda) como consultor técnico especializado en procesos de destilación, y brindando soporte a refinerías del grupo y externas en las regiones de Europa, Asia y América Latina. En el año 2002 regresa nuevamente a Argentina, para liderar el desarrollo inicial de diversos proyectos de inversión en el área de combustibles limpios y mejoras medioambientales. Posteriormente toma a su cargo la gerencia de una de las unidades de producción de la refinería (incluyendo unidades de destilación primaria, hidroprocesos, reformación catalítica, craqueo térmico, y recuperación de azufre entre otras), participando además en la implementación de nuevos procesos de trabajo enfocados en eficiencia y seguridad operativa, y diversos proyectos y paradas generales de planta del sector.

Actualmente forma parte del Equipo Gerencial de la Refinería Shell, desempeñándose como Gerente de Tecnología.

Responsible for leading the Petrochemical business of the main integrated Oil and Gas company of Argentina. Additionally responsible for leading Profertil, a JV with the canadian corporation Agrium, to produce and sell Urea for the agricultural industry.

He has been working in the Oil Industry for more than 20 years, living for about 5 years in the US and Europe. Since 2004 back to Argentina, he has occupied a wide range of strategical positions in YPF as International Trade Manager (2008 – 2010) and later Industrial Sales Director (2010 – 2012).

Marcos earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology (ITBA) and a Diploma of Marine Transportation and Crude Oil Trading from the Cambridge University.

Arturo Bettati is an Industrial engineer with more than 20 years of experience in petroleum refining. He received an MSc in management at the MIT in Boston, USA, in 1995 and successfully guided the marketing and commercial hydrocracking activities of Haldor Topsoe in Copenhagen for 7 years since 2001. In 2008 Haldor Topsoe opened its subsidiary HTAL SA in Buenos Aires and Arturo was appointed Refining General Manager helping to increase significantly HTAS hydro-processing market share in the Latino region.

Now Arturo is Managing Director of Haldor Topsoe offices in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Mexico.
